Alternative Teacher Compensation Fall 2009 SeminarsNorthern California and Southern CaliforniaSeptember 22, 2009 in Menlo Park, CA September 23, 2009 in Los Angeles, CA In Fall 2009, the U.S. Department of Education will begin accepting applications for the Teacher Incentive Fund (TIF), a $200 million grant program to fund school districts' performance-based teacher compensation systems. Even in the face of the unprecedented budget crises battering our state, the availability of TIF funds opens up a unique opportunity to think creatively about how teachers are paid in California schools. Therefore, Policy Analysis for California Education (PACE) and Full Circle Fund organized this set of seminars as a follow-up to the March 2009 Conference to support a conversation among school districts and local teachers from Northern and Southern California that expressed an interest in moving forward on compensation issues. Guests participated in a discussion on how to design alternative teacher pay systems and how to apply for a Teacher Incentive Fund grant. The goal was to bring together a small group of districts to provide assistance in the initial stages of the compensation design process, with an eye to a possible application for TIF funding.
