Environment & Global Economic Opportunity Circle Meeting

The Environment/Energy and Global Economic Opportunity Circle will join forces to bring you two experts in one evening on Tuesday, December 2, 2012 as we welcome Rachel Payne, former Chief Global Strategist at Google and Eric Corey Freed, Principal of organicARCHITECT. Rachel and Eric will deliver brief, TED-style talks on sustainable development and how we can change the paradigm by empowering citizens to understand the effects their choices have on society.




About The Speakers:

Eric Corey Freed, LEED APl Hon. FIGP, is Prinicipal of organicARCHITECT, an architecture and consulting firm in California, with 20 years of experience in green building. Eric co-developed the Sustainable Design programs at the Academy of Art University and University of California Berkeley Extension. he is on the boards of USGBC Inland Empire, Architects, Designers & Planners for Social Responsibility (ADPSR), and West Coast Green, as well as the advisory boards of a dozen other organizations. he was the founding Chair of Architecture for the San Francisco Design Museum and one of the founders of ecoTECTURE: The online journal of Ecological Design. He is a regular contributor for Sustainable Industries Journal, Luxe, Natural Home, Metropolitan Home and dozens of othe rpublications. Eric lectures around the country at 40+ conferences a year, and his work has been featured in Dwell, Metropolis, Town & Country, Natural Home and Newsweek. He has been seen on television on Fox News, HGTV, The Sundance Channel and PBS.

When Eric was just 25 years old, noted architect and critic Philip Johnson described him as "one of the real brains of his generation". Today, Eric continues the tradition of "Organic Architecture", first developed by Frank Lloyd Wright. He is a founding board member and current Chair of the Coachella Valley branch of the US Green Building Council, and sits on the Sustainability Commission for the City of Palm Desert. He has received awards from several Mayors, and worked with dozens of municipalities around the country to help implement sustainable policies. Eric is the author of four books, including "Green Building & Remodeling for Dummies", a bestseller with over 200,000 copies in print, and "Sustainable School Architecture." His latest, "Green$ense for your Home" won the 2011 Outstanding Book Award from the American Society of Journalists and Authors.

Eric is considered a leader in the field; named by San Francisco Magazine "Best Green Architect" in 2005; "Best Visionary" in 2007; and "Green Visionary" by 7x7 Magazine in 2008. In 2012, he was named one of the 25 "Best Green Architecture Firms" in the US, and one of the "Top 10 Most Influential Green Architects."


Rachel Payne is Founder and CEO of FEM, Inc. an organization whose mission is to create greater transparency around the effects of media and entertainment on society and to bring feminine voices and perspectives to the most important issues we are facing. The FEM Inc vision is to change the content paradigm by empowering consumers to understand the potential effects of the content they watch and drive greater consumer demand for content that has a positive impact on society. Before starting FEM Inc., Rachel was Principal, Global Strategic Alliances, at Google, where she worked with the executive team and with senior executives across all product areas to develop strategy and engagement models for Google's most important partners globally.

Prior to this, Rachel was Head of Industry for Technology, running cross-platform media sales teams servicing Google's largest technology partners. She was also on the Google Africa management team, helping establish their sub-Saharan Africa business operations as Country Manager for Google Uganda. Rachel joined Google as the first employee hired on the founding team of Google.org, and was a senior program officer on the Global Development team from its inception. Rachel is an entrepreneur at heart and has been on the founding or early teams of several successful ventures in Silicon Valley including Hotwire (acquired by IAC) and Billpoint (acquired by eBay).

In 2005, Rachel Co-Founded inDplay - a media company providing cross-platform distribution for independent, professionally-produced content - and served on the Board of Directors until 2007 (acquired by Discovery Media Group); investors included Eric Schmidt, William Randolph Hearst III and Shai Agassi. Rachel serves on the Global Advisory Board for BRAC USA and is on the Board of Directors for LinkTV and Working Assets (Credo). Rachel earned an MBA in Global Management and Public Management from Stanford.
