Community leadership through policy and action

Cover of Committee for Excellence in Education ReportAs part of our engaged philanthropy model for social change, Full Circle Fund provides opportunities for experiential learning and exposure to new, innovative ideas that can help transform business professionals into community leaders. An example of our model in action is member Jeff Camp and his work as part of Governor Schwarzenegger’s Committee on Excellence in Education, which he was appointed to in 2005.

The non-partisan committee brings together a diverse group of experts on education, with members drawn from both the public and private sectors. It recently issued a robust and revealing analysis of California’s K-12 public education system, including strong recommendations for a systematic overhaul to create a school system that prepares every child for success. The full report and the committee’s recommendations are available at www.everychildprepared.org.

Through Jeff’s work on the committee, Full Circle Fund is leading efforts that promise to improve the effectiveness of public education in the Bay Area and beyond.

When he became a Full Circle Fund member in 2001, Jeff was wrapping a successful career at Microsoft. As a member, he immediately immersed himself in the complex issues affecting the potential for student success in public schools, growing his education and public policy expertise and eventually emerging as a recognized education expert.

Jeff is one of our most engaged members, running many grant projects and leading our Education Circle. Jeff’s enthusiasm for our work is infectious and he has inspired the dozens of members of the Education Circle to take on the most innovative projects possible, achieving impressive results.

Under Jeff’s leadership, Full Circle Fund has supported education-related projects with many impressive organizations, including The New Teacher Center, Parent Institute for Quality Education and Oakland Unified School District, as well as a partnership with the California Teachers Association.
