Circles End the Year with Great Speakers, Impact

Posted by Caroline on December 9th, 2008

In the first two weeks of December all four Circles held thought-provoking, impact-focused meetings for members and those interested in getting involved in Full Circle Fund.

On December 2, the Environment Circle welcomed Peter Lui from New Resource Bank to speak to the group about green banking in a sea of red, hosted at IBM by Gweynth Borden.

The Education and the Technology Circles both met on December 3rd at McKesson (thanks to Nathan Fisher) and Ricoh Innovations (thanks to Greg Wolff), respectively. Jonathan Klein from the Rogers Family Foundation spoke to the Education Circle about the successes thus far in Oakland Unified School District thanks to the Expect Success program (a former Full Circle Fund grantee) but emphasized there is still a lot of progress to be made in attracting and retraining high performing teachers. The Technology Circle had a special mini-incubator session for their new grantees: Spot.us, The Stride Center, and CTN Bay Area.

On December 8th, Cooley Godward Kronish hosted a record-breaking 65 members and guests for the first official meeting of the Global Economic Opportunity Circle since its launch at the Forum 2008. Kavita Ramdas, President and CEO of the Global Fund for Women gave a provocative talk about international grantmaking and emphasized to the group that giving should be done with cultural, geographic, and economic context in mind.
