Board Member Brian David has just been appointed to a role at the Federal Communications Commission. Brian will be helping lead a small task force that is writing the National Broadband Strategy, which the task force will deliver to Congress in February 2010. In addition to Brian, there will be three other Directors on the project, with each Director managing one component of the final plan. Brian has responsibility for Adoption and Usage issues, which means understanding at a detailed level why people do and do not buy a broadband service for their home or small business, and making recommendations on whether and how to reduce the number of non-adopters.

“I owe this role exclusively to my Full Circle Fund involvement,” Brian shared, “This appointment emanated from my work during the Obama Campaign, where I co-led the Battleground States Team for the Tech/Media/Telecom working group.” He continued, “That work, in turn, emanated from three different Full Circle relationships: Michael Anders (fellow board member) mentioned to Jamie Daves (a Full Circle Fund co-founder) that I was interested in helping out, and the work Jamie and I did was for Alec Ross (a previous speaker at Full Circle Fund events) when he was at One Economy Corporation.”

(It’s worth noting that Alec, along with several other close associates of Full Circle Fund, has joined the Obama Administration in recent months.) It’s incredibly exciting to congratulate Brian as yet another Full Circle Fund Member who has grown from being a leader at the local level to being recognized as an innovative problem-solver tapped to examine issues on the national landscape. When the connections made and relationships built were a result of being an engaged Full Circle Fund Member, it shows that our model is working. Don’t you just love it when things come “full circle”? Cheers to Brian on this exciting new endeavor.
