Members Inspire Next Generation at Teen Innovation Summit
Full Circle Fund members recently had the opportunity to speak with talented high school students from around the world at the Conrad Foundation’s 2011 Innovation Summit hosted by NASA’s Ames Research Center in the heart of Silicon Valley. The four-day event was the Spirit of Innovation Awards program finale and the launchpad for breakthrough technologies in Clean Energy, Cyber Security, and Aerospace Exploration.
Leading entrepreneurs, government officials, and scientists joined over 100 top young innovators and their teachers in this collaborative social forum, which concluded May 1, 2011.
Full Circle Fund member and Conrad Foundation Executive Director Joshua Neubert kicked off the list of speakers which included Mythbusters co-host Adam Savage, NASA’s Pete Worden, astronaut Ed Lu, “Father of the Internet” Vint Cerf, television and film producer David Eilenberg, IndieGoGo’s Danae Ringelman, Facebook’s Jon Fougner, and the Department of Homeland Security’s Tom Cellucci.
“I was amazed at the caliber of speakers at the Summit. It was a Who’s Who of Silicon Valley entrepreneurs and technologists," observed Full Circle Fund member Doug Mandell, who spoke on an entrepreneurship panel, "I wish I could have participated in an event such as this when I was a student.”
Full Circle Fund Founder Josh Becker (pictured at right) also shared his path from student to venture capitalist and conveyed his philosophy of engaged philanthropy to an intrigued teenage crowd. Intimate chats and thought-provoking panel discussions blended with activities such as electric scooter rides, an air guitar competition, and rocking out to Grammy Award-winning band Ozomatli.
