FCF: Why are you a Full Circle Fund Member? What drew you to the organization?

ZH: I joined Full Circle Fund so I could get to know others who share an interest in working towards the goal of creating social, community, and environmental benefits. Full Circle Fund provides an opportunity to engage with professionals from varied backgrounds, sectors, and work environments. I believe Full Circle Fund is an effective and dynamic vehicle to bring social impact to scale. My Full Circle Fund membership is a great complement to my work as a lawyer in independent practice – I can be part of a larger movement to scale social impact.

FCF: What is the most meaningful aspect of being a Member?

ZH: I am inspired by fellow members and grant partners who are dedicated to mission-driven work and advocate for educational, environmental, economic, and other causes. It’s very motivating to see the passion that goes into their work.

FCF: In three words, how would you describe Full Circle Fund and its work?

ZH: Meaningful; energetic; committed.

FCF: What was your 2013 Full Circle Fund highlight?

ZH: Holding a roundtable for Full Circle Fund members and grant partners to discuss legal issues facing nonprofits and social enterprises. We discussed the numerous legal structure options for starting a new social purpose organization, the nuts and bolts of applying for tax-exempt status, fiscal sponsorship, and common legal issues facing growing organizations. I enjoyed how engaged and inquisitive the members and grant partners were throughout the discussion!

FCF: How does Full Circle Fund align with your values and view of philanthropy?

ZH: Full Circle Fund definitely aligns with my values and view of philanthropy. I am an attorney who works exclusively with nonprofits, foundations, and for-benefit businesses. This is work that is aligned with my values and view of philanthropy. Full Circle Fund is similarly aligned.

FCF: What are you most passionate about?

ZH: Finding joy in my work. Building a career in which my values and my work are aligned. Encouraging and helping others to do the same.

FCF: What do you love most about San Francisco/the Bay Area?

ZH: Great food. Great hikes all over the Bay, including many that are just a short distance from where I live.

FCF: What book is on your nightstand right now?

ZH: The Happiness Advantage by Shawn Achor.

FCF: What motivates you the most?

ZH: What motivates me the most is working with founder-entrepreneurs to build strong organizations that achieve purpose goals and profit goals.Thank you for all the work that you do for us and for the community, Zoe!
