On a beautiful and drizzly afternoon this past Saturday, Full Circle Fund hosted a special gathering for our Rising Leaders at Half Moon Bay Brewing Company: an intimate luncheon and discussion on impact with Lenny Mendonca, philanthropist, longtime Full Circle Fund supporter, and co-founder of McKinsey's Public Sector practice.
During the afternoon, Lenny shared his insight and experience on balancing his rewarding career with a commitment of giving back to the community and inspiring local change. He touched on various facets of philanthropy and impact through his journey -- notably, his experiences as a McKinsey employee and lifelong interest in the public sector.
At McKinsey, Lenny remarked, he found that the company's inherent values of giving back set a new standard of inspiring action through employees. This model of aligning business with community impact illustrated that profit, sustainability, and employee retention all follow strong core values and an organizational dedication to giving back.
Through his experiences building McKinsey's Public Sector practice, he noticed impact cannot be catalyzed by top-down mandates from government; rather, impact starts locally and spreads out. Public and private sectors must work together to amplify change.
Additionally, speaking to scale (and to Full Circle Fund's model of accelerating change through collaboration), Lenny emphasized that Full Circle Fund and similar groups have the power to spread impact by sharing our story. We hope we can encourage others to gather smart, motivated people together to spend their time helping local organizations accelerate change!
This engaging discussion left our Rising Leaders fired up and inspired! Kunal Kothari, a professional at Google and Rising Leader since last year, remarked, "Lenny's background was an enlightening perspective on how public and private sectors can work together and enhance each other's results. His passion was contagious! It was amazing to hear how he blended his passions and skills over the course of his career in order to improve his community."
Additionally, Shannon Jackson, Rising Leader and Financial Associate at Makena Capital, shared, "What a lovely afternoon spent at Half Moon Bay Brewing Co with Lenny Mendonca! Lenny shared a clear vision over lunch: the importance of increased collaboration in the public and private sectors for the benefit of our communities."
We would like to thank Lenny for spending his afternoon with our staff and Rising Leaders, and for reminding us by working together, we can create more impact for organizations and change lives and communities for the better.
