Bill Hilliard has spent 30 years working as a senior executive operating manager and private investor in clean technology, real estate, specialty finance, and computer/software technology ventures. In addition, he is a Managing Partner of the Cleantech Circle, an advisory and mentorship organization helping to launch new clean technologies. Before CleanREIT Partners, Bill founded Residential Growth Partners, a real estate fund and REIT. Earlier, in 1993, he founded Sonnetech Ltd. (now part of VeriSign) and served as its CEO until acquisition in 2002. Prior to that, he served as a senior executive at two technology companies during their initial public offerings (MTSI and PTEC), and he began his career at Union Bank of California. Through Hilliard Equities, Bill has been a board member or observer representing investors in three venture-backed firms. Also, he is an inventor or co-inventor named on eleven issued US patents. Bill is a member of the Executive Board of the Sloan School at MIT, and is a member of the American Solar Energy Society; IREC, the Interstate Renewable Energy Council; the U.S. Green Building Council, Angels Forum, the Band of Angels, and of NAREIT, the National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts.
Bill earned a master's degree in business from MIT, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in mathematical economics from Pomona College. Concurrent with his business career, he was appointed as a Visiting Scholar at Wharton, and at UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business. His academic contributions were published in the Journal of Business Venturing, Venture Capital Journal, Knowledge@Wharton, and Wharton Magazine.
