Susana was born in rural Mexico and migrated to the United States as a young girl. Her commitment to equity and social justice for diverse communities is the core of her work. She has over 15 years of experience in participatory evaluation, youth-led and community-led participatory public health research, and community engagement processes. Susana started her career in community health working with older adults in San Francisco. Joining the journey of highly independent older adults to those who suffered from Alzheimer's and dementia taught her the importance of always striving to improve the quality of life of all. Her experience and passion extended to cover the life span and she was worked with parents and youth in recent years. She was also a founding thought partner in the development of a childcare resource center in an early-childhood desert in Deep East Oakland. She is the principal and co-founder of Communities in Collaboration | Comunidades en Colaboración a participatory evaluation and community engagement consultancy firm in Oakland California.
