Ready to Accelerate Social Justice in our Post-COVID World?
Spokeland

Mission: Spokeland is a nonprofit, community-driven bicycle cooperative that aims to reach out locally and foster Oakland unity. We support the use of bicycles as a viable means of transportation as well as a healthy recreational activity.

Who We Are: We see bicycles as everyday, approachable, useful objects that are an amazing tool for creating a radical educational and social environment. We teach how bikes work and how to fix them. As a result, our community members have access to increased mobility and agency to move through the world.

Location:

813 37th St. Oakland, CA 94608

What We Do:

At Spokeland we connect people to bicycle knowledge with an emphasis on community. We aim to increase the representation of diverse bike riders with mechanical knowledge. Spokeland offers accessible and affordable parts and refurbished bicycles.

Project Summary:

Spokeland is committed to making their services and training available and accessible to underrepresented and underserved community members. They are excited to partner with an FCF project team to explore potential ideas or opportunities for generating more revenue, and increasing financial support from the Bay Area community so that they can continue the great work they do!

The project will likely entail:

  • Conducting stakeholder interviews with staff and volunteers to understand Spokeland’s theory of change, current revenue streams, and financial situation.

  • Identifying similar organizations to explore other models that are working well.

  • Deliverable #1: Research and identify opportunities for creating new revenue streams.

  • Deliverable #2: Recommendations for improving existing revenue streams.

  • Optional: Give feedback on their existing financial statements.
