Tech Accelerator Fund

The Tech Accelerator deepens cross-sector engagement between the nonprofit and tech sectors to help build a better Bay Area. Leaders from the tech sector partner with vetted, high-impact nonprofit organizations to help refine and scale their technology-driven mission.

During the program tech leaders learn to work with nonprofit partners through a lens of equity and empathy, while using their business acumen to build social impact products that create change locally and around the world.

Program Structure

Phase 1: Member and Nonprofit Finalists Selection

Members and nonprofits apply to join the Accelerator

  • Members apply: they are vetted for their experience and 21 are selected to join

  • Nonprofits apply: they are vetted by FCF's deep network of cross-sector experts and 5 are selected as finalists.

    • All nonprofit organizations must meet a set of criteria in order to be eligible to participate and be able to article one or more detailed projects that would significantly advance their mission/impact

    • Projects range from Marketing and Sales Support to IT Infrastructure & Security

Phase 2: Orientation

Members and nonprofits participate in separate orientations designed to provide learning opportunities that strengthen the outcomes of their participation.

  • Member Orientation: Members learn about the program structure and timeline, and receive training on power and privilege, equity, and how to effectively build trust and partner with leaders across sectors with unique backgrounds and lived experiences.

  • Nonprofit Orientation: Grant Partners receive training from PR firm HotWire Global to strengthen their story and prepare to partner with Tech Accelerator Members.

Phase 3: Members Voting and Grant Partner Selection

Members vote on and select 3 final Grant Partners

  • At the Meet & Greet event: Members hear from 5 grant partners in a casual “Fireside chat” setting led by FCF followed by Q&A for Members.

  • Following the event: Members vote and the 3 nonprofits that receive the most votes are each awarded a $15,000k grant and a Tech Accelerator member team.

  • The 2 remaining nonprofits receive: $1,000 to compensate them for their time and are invited to join a future cohort as an automatic finalist.

Phase 4: Working Sessions (where the magic happens!)

Members teams are formed and the real work starts.

  • Projects are defined: FCF works with Grant Partners to define a final scope of work

  • Teams formed: 21 Members are broken into 3 teams (one per grant partner) based on their skill-set and the needs of each grant partner and project

  • Kickoff: FCF leads a Kickoff session to set team norms and launch the projects

  • Impact:  Over the next 4 months, Members and Grant Partners will meet regularly to move the project forward.

  • Close out: Teams come back together for a final closing session to present on their work and celebrate their collective impact
